Colours of Empowerment

These beautiful scarves tell an incredible story of tradition and economic empowerment of the people from Thar.

Why this matters...

Early 2019, while I was visiting Pakistan I discovered these beautiful shawls that are made by families of artisans living in the Thar Desert. Everything from the embroidery to the block print and even the fabric itself is made by hand using traditional tools and methods passed down from generation to generation. Because of many reasons this ancient craft and folk art is gradually disappearing from the region. The most serious is perhaps the dramatic effects climate change in the Indus region that is leading to the massive displacement of people and communities.

My objective is to support the continuation of this craft by promoting these shawls and creating a fair trade channel for the artisans to earn a decent living wage and preserve their culture and traditions.
